Morley Hayes

Morley Hayes was the former farmstead to Morley Manor, which lies adjacent to the thirteenth fairway. The history of the Manor and the farmstead can be traced back to 1082 when the Doomsday Survey was compiled. The Estate was then in the ownership of Henry de Ferrers, over the centuries it eventually passed into the hands of the Sacheverells. It is believed that the manor, the farmstead and the church were all connected by a series of secret underground tunnels. The farmstead prior to its recent conversion was rebuilt in the late 1700's.

The estate remained as a whole until the 1950's when the then owners, The Fitzherberts, of the Butterley Company (the builders of St. Pancras Station, London) sold off the estate in individual lots. On conversion of the farm to its present use, many railway lines were found supporting the structure. The manor house was purchased by Dr Barnardos for use as an orphanage, the farmstead and the surrounding land was purchased by a local business man who bred a world famous Friesian herd of dairy cows.

The farm was purchased by the present owners, a local farming family, in the early 1980's. It was farmed until 1989 when planning permission was obtained to convert and build the present complex and golf courses. The new additions to the original building are all built of old Pennine stone reclaimed from disused railway tunnels in the Manchester area. Morley Hayes opened in November 1991 and is still a family owned and run business.
