Morley HayesSustainability
Our Guide to sustainability for today . . . and tomorrow
Here at Morley Hayes, we are always looking to grow and to improve on what we do, but whatever we do, we will always be aware of our impact on the environment.
As a business run by a farming family, we accept that we have a responsibility to protect the local and global environment, and that everyone’s future depends on what we do in the present.
This is what farmers have done for generations, and so although we use our fields for golf rather than crops or livestock, everything we do reflects our role as custodians of the land, whose job it is to protect and nurture it for the future.
So that’s why, when you visit our hotel or play a round on our courses, you’ll spot the very many ways in which we’re doing our bit, from our solar panels to our locally sourced food, from our electric golf buggies to our wildflower meadows.
Everything we do is outlined in our environmental strategy, which we like to think is out road map to making a difference.
First up is our commitment to reducing our Environmental Impact, which is where our solar panels, our no-waste-to-landfill policy and our electric buggies are all helping to limit our effect on the world around us.
Then there’s our pledge to Live off the Land, by using the long grass in the rough as hay to feed our cattle – and serving the beef in our restaurant – and collecting the honey made by our on-site bees.
Did you know that no fewer than 500 species of flora and fauna can be found at Morley Hayes thanks to our Biodiversity work, from the red kites wheeling in the skies above to the fungi in our ancient wood?
And speaking of our wood, our Land Management programme no only makes sure we’re making a home for nature, it’s also preparing us for the environmental challenges that lie ahead, giving us sustainability in an uncertain world.
But we don’t keep all this to ourselves – because through our Awards and Initiatives, we’re spreading the word about the need for everyone to do their bit, and inviting our community to visit us and enjoy our natural haven for themselves.
